Leadership involves an individual or group inspiring a team to identify and achieve goals positively.
The qualities of a leader include practicing these skills:
- Identify problems and develop action plans to solve them
- Acquire teamwork and group building skills
- Assume responsibility for actions and follow through on goals
- Improve written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Through 4-H Youth-Adult partnerships are designed to support you as you practice leadership skills, you can gain self-confidence and practice self-reflection in a safe environment.
Leadership opportunities in 4-H:
- Be a youth mentor or tutor
- Join club, county, or state committees
- Organize, implement, and evaluate community service projects
- Be active in 4-H clubs as a junior or teen leader
- Serve as a camp counselor
- Lead your club as a Club Officer
- Attend leadership conferences and trainings
- Apply to be on a State Advisory Committee or the California 4-H Management Board
