Volunteer Spotlights

Karyn, Sonoma County

Karyn_005
Long after both of her children have completed their 4-H careers, Karyn's devotion to 4-H continues to inspire the next generation. For over 30 years, Karyn has been an active 4-H volunteer, serving as Club Leader, County All Star Advisor, project leader, and a County Club Council officer.

Over the years, Karyn has become an expert in record books and a valuable resource for new 4-H members. She is always willing to sit down and help 4-Hers, whether it is with record book forms or college applications. She has expanded her 4-H club and, through her position on her community's School Board, has promoted her club throughout the community. Every year, she attends the State Leadership Conference as a chaperone to assist staff in organizing this huge event and to inspire Sonoma county youth into leadership positions. Through her guidance and understanding, she has been a positive mentor to many youth over the years.

Karyn's ability to inspire youth is one important skill she brings to the 4-H Youth Development Program. Another talent she brings is her vision of 4-H; Karyn has a long-term plan for her club and county and the passion to see her goals through. She is encouraging of new ideas while still preserving the older traditions of 4-H.

Says one of the County All Stars about Karyn, she has "helped me to be a better person, and I cannot imagine 4-H without her." Karyn was recently awarded the Golden Clover Award in the category of Keith Barnes - Volunteer Lifetime Achievement.
