Wildfires tore through southern California, leaving hundreds of people homeless, and 4-H All Star Hannah took initiative with the Disaster Relief team. She ran a commercial kitchen, managed ten other volunteers, and cooked over 12,000 meals a day for homeless San Diego residents.

After Hurricane Ike wrecked the coast of Texas, Hannah traveled to Houston, Texas with the Disaster Relief Organization and ran a warehouse distribution center to organize, inventory, and distribute the food donations sent to the area.

Hannah's dedication to public service goes beyond the United States of America. In 2009, she traveled to China with an agricultural exchange program to help teach local residents about modern agriculture methods and healthy diet. In an effort to increase their protein, she taught them about raising and properly cooking turkeys, raising chickens for eggs and meat, and how to milk a cow and create yogurt and cheese. In her six months in China, she made a lasting positive impact on the community.

In her lifetime in 4-H, she has made an immeasurable impact on her community and on the world. From disaster relief within the United States to her efforts sending blankets to orphaned Haitian children, Hannah embodies the 4-H values of citizenship and leadership. She was recently awarded the Golden Clover award in the category of Luella Zamzow Spirit of Citizenship for her work to improve the lives of those in need.
