Weston enjoys the livestock aspect of 4-H, and he certainly has many animals to work with, explaining, “I have two pigs, two turkeys, three goats, four chickens, two dogs, one emu, one turtle and lots of fish.”  This year, Weston focused on the poultry and swine projects.  “My goal last year was to start a poultry group,” says Weston.  He reached this aspiration, and five 4-H members began raising turkeys.  Weston showed his turkey at the 4-H Field Day, where his turkey was “twelve times as big” as the chickens in his class.  For his swine project, Weston showed his pig “You” at the fair and earned third place.

Weston was also a member of the arts and crafts project.  He made a birdhouse and a foot stool.  When Weston entered his crafts at the 4-H Field Day, he earned the Division Winner award for his footstool.  Weston says, “I did a presentation on my foot stool at school, and my teacher asked if she could buy it!”

Weston aimed to incorporate more community service this year; he certainly achieved his goal!  He passed out flyers for the local food bank, purchased items for the Women’s Shelter and Operation Military Kids, and delivered wood.  Weston was very proud when he amassed enough community service hours to earn the Silver President’s Award.

As vice president of his club, Weston has made the most of his 4-H experiences, and he can’t wait for more!  “I wonder what I will sign up for next year!”
