Event Details

The 2020 National 4-H Shooting Sports Western Heritage Workshop training is strictly for 4-H volunteer adults 21 years of age or older and 4-H staff. This is a National Level II training and requires attendees to be state certified and experienced in at least one 4-H shooting sports discipline.

This training is geared toward developing your shooting skills, knowledge of youth development, and teaching methods. Our goal is to prepare you to return to your home state/county and serve as a resource person and instructor that will help the 4-H Shooting Sports Program grow.

Upon completion, participants will be certified to lead the 4-H Western Heritage project in their home state.

About the 4-H Western Heritage Project

The 4-H Western Heritage Project combines a comprehensive study of the Old West with the shooting sports discipline of western action shooting. Members dress in Old West clothing, shoot replica firearms of the frontier period, and expand their knowledge of U.S. history.

Provide an avenue for 4-H members and adult leaders to experience the lifestyles and cultures of the Old West from the period of around 1860 - 1900 through a living history approach to learning while instilling the concepts of gun safety and personal responsibility.

$60 includes:

  • Course shooting supplies (firearms, ammunition, targets)
  • Three lunches (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday)
  • Two suppers (Tuesday, Wednesday)
  • Course curriculum

Please contact your county 4-H staff for an application. Registration is due April 3, 2020 and class size is limited. Please submit your completed application and full payment to your State 4-H Shooting Sports Coordinator.

You should arrive by 6:00 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 2020.
Closing events will be Thursday, April 16, 2020 by 7:00 p.m.
