Entomology Contest
Having an entomology project informs not only 4-H members but the public on how important insects are to our everyday life.

Judging Contest
The objective of judging in the 4-H program is to help members grow in their ability to think, reason, and make logical and scientific judgments. Judging is about making choices and decisions. In each class, youth rank four items based on a standard; typically ten classes. There will also be a small non-competitive Primary Division for Primaries to get judging experience. They will receive a certificate of participation and a participation ribbon.

State 4-H Plant Science Contest
The contest is organized into three parts: judging, plant identification, and written test. The four highest ranking senior 4-H members are qualified to participate in the national contest.

Youth Age 5 to 8 Year Old Activities
Primary 4-H'ers are ages 5 to 9 years old. Age-appropriate activities help keep them included and engaged in State Field Day!

4-H Robotics Drop-in Activities
Drop by the Robotics area to get hands-on with robots! Program a Scribbler 2 robot to complete a challenge on one the game boards (we will show you how).

About California 4-H State Field Day

The California 4-H State Field Day is the largest educational event for California 4-H youth members and adult 4-H volunteers. The event is intended to provide a culminating experience in public speaking, textiles, plant sciences, photography, interview skills, and entomology. This family-friendly event is for all ages to participate.

In 2002, the event began as a public speaking evaluation activity for 100 youth, initiated by a youth member and adult staff partner. Since then, the event has grown to include over twelve activities reaching nearly 1,200 people, serves the largest number of youth at any California 4-H gathering,  and strengthens a number of important extended learning practices

Each contest and activity is coordinated by 4-H volunteers and youth. Event coordination and facility support is provided by:
