About California State 4-H Field Day
The largest and most comprehensive educational event for 4-H youth members (age 9-19) and 4-H volunteer educators, California State 4-H Field Day has more than 1,500 participants annually. Since 2002, 4-H'ers from throughout the state have come together to connect and compete in this statewide event, held annually on the last Saturday of May on the campus of the University of California, Davis.
Each contest and activity is coordinated by 4-H volunteers and youth, with coordination and facility support provided by the State 4-H Office.
The goal of the event is to provide a culminating experience for 4-H members in their year-long 4-H education in public speaking, textiles, plant sciences, photography, interview skills, and entomology.

State 4-H Presentation Day (pre-qualification and pre-registration required): Volunteer evaluators provide written feedback to individual or teams of 4-H members on their presentations. Evaluation is criterion-based using a rubric. Types of presentations vary between demonstrations, prepared speech, interpretive reading, impromptu, and others.
Having an entomology project informs not only 4-H members but the public on how important insects are to our everyday life.
California 4-H State Film Festival (pre-registration required for competition; viewing is drop-in): Provides a venue for teams of 4-H members to showcase their films. View a selection of previous year's films at http://www.youtube.com/user/California4H.
Judging Contest (no pre-registration necessary): The objective of judging in the 4-H program is to help members grow in their ability to think, reason, and make logical and scientific judgments. Judging is about making choices and decisions. In each class, youth rank four items based on a standard; typically ten classes. There will also be a small non-competitive Primary Division for Primaries to get judging experience. They will receive a certificate of participation and a participation ribbon.
Interview Contest (pre-registration encouraged but not required): The Interview Contest is a Public Speaking contest that gives members an opportunity to practice the real-life skill of applying for a job. Pre-registration encouraged.
State 4-H Fashion Revue (pre-qualification and pre-registration required): Volunteer judges provide feedback on 4-H members’ clothing and accessory choices using criterion-based rubrics. Categories are Traditional, Consumer Science Purchased, Upcycled and Challenge. Open to the public are multiple service, craft, judging and fashion activities, and a fashion show. Organized by a committee of youth and adult volunteers.
State 4-H Photography Contest (pre-registration required): 4-H members may submit two photographs in various categories.
State 4-H Discussion Meet This event has been moved to February 26.
Logo Contest (no pre-registration necessary): In the morning, 4-H members may submit their logo design for the following year’s Field Day. In the afternoon, 4-H members vote on their favorite design.
