Spotlight-bret
Bret jumped into his first year of 4-H with both feet, becoming involved with three different projects. He participated in photography, rabbits, and leathercrafts.

In photography, Bret took a wide variety of pictures, focusing on subjects such as old war airplanes, the sky, and Disneyland’s Small World. He learned how to crop and edit his pictures, as well as how to mount them using mounting squares and mounting tape. Bret enjoyed his photography project and plans to continue his involvement next year.

Lockwood 4-H lacked a rabbit group, but Bret really wanted to work with bunnies. He asked his father to be the leader of a new rabbit project. Bret took care of four different rabbits and took one bunny to the Salinas Valley Fair, where he entered a showmanship competition.

In his leathercrafting project, Bret learned many new skills such as rubber cement gluing, double loop lacing, and whip stitching. He used these abilities to make a wallet, a key case, an angel ornament and a coin pouch. Bret says, “The most memorable thing that I did in this project this year was making my wallet, and I hope that it lasts a long time.”
