Kyle, El Sereno 4-H Club, Santa Clara County

Spotlight-Kyle
Kyle attended his first 4-H meeting this year, “only to satisfy my mom.”  However, after listening to the project reports, he decided that 4-H could be fun!  He joined and immediately became a very active member.  Kyle took on five 4-H projects: public speaking, foods and nutrition, sewing, archery, and pumpkin carving.

For his first year in 4-H, Kyle certainly enjoyed a lot of success!  In his public speaking project, Kyle read The True Story of the Three Little Pigs and won gold medals at the County, Sectional, and State Presentation Days.  Kyle also advanced to the state competition with his sewing project.  He made an apron, two vests, a pair of pants, and a blanket.  “I didn’t like being the only boy at the County level at first, but it felt really good to receive the gold medals and go onto State,” Kyle explains.  For his foods and nutrition project, Kyle made omelets and smoothies.  He also entered a fudge peanut butter cheesecake in Favorite Foods Day and won second runner-up!  Kyle enjoyed the archery project, where he got to shoot an arrow at targets.  Pumpkin carving, one of Kyle’s more unique projects, gave him the opportunity to clean out and carve a Halloween pumpkin.

Kyle can’t wait for next year’s 4-H adventures!  He is especially looking forward to 4-H camp.  He plans to stay in the same projects and possibly join some others as well.  Says Kyle, “I really like 4-H; it is a lot of fun!!!”
