Leadership Washington Focus (LWF) is a National 4-H leadership conference for youth ages 12-14. Youth can exchange ideas, practice respect, and form friendships with other 4-H'ers from across the nation.

Who can attend

Youth ages 12 to 14. Delegates must be at least 12 years of age by time of travel to participate. You do not have to be a current 4-H member to participate. Please contact us at if you are not a current 4-H member.

2020 Trip Cost: (2021 rate is still to be determined)

$2,399 per person, includes:

  • Attendance at National 4-H’s Leadership Washington Focus Conference
  • Round trip airfare
  • Lodging at the National 4-H Conference Center
  • Most meals during the trip
  • Access to the tour sites
  • Transportation during the program
  • LWF Conference T-Shirt

About the trip and Conference

This 5-day trip is packed with educational adventure as participants tour our nation’s Capital and learn life-changing leadership skills in a conference setting. The program will take place at the National 4-H Youth Conference Center, just one mile from the Washington, D.C. border.

At this conference 4-H delegates will:

  • Build confidence in their ability to motivate and direct others in meaningful action
  • Practice effective communication with others through group discussion and public speaking
  • Work with others to create and accomplish goals
  • Develop an understanding of their own personal leadership style
  • Experience hands-on learning using the historical backdrop of Washington, D.C.

Participants are immersed in the culture and history of our nation through on-site workshops at D.C.’s most spectacular sights.

Destinations include, but are not limited to:

  • The White House and Lafayette Park
  • Ford's Theatre
  • The National Archives
  • Presidential and war monuments and memorials
  • Smithsonian museums
  • and more!

Gift Certificate Program

This program allows family members and friends of 4-H members to provide a specific 4-H member with financial support for attending Statewide and National 4-H Civic Engagement and Leadership conferences.

LWF Delegate Information

Cancellation and Refund Policy:

The submission of your registration is a contractual commitment to the University of California 4-H Youth Development Program (CA 4-H) of your intent to attend this trip. CA 4-H secures venues, transportation, lodging etc. based on numbers of registered participants and will incur financial penalties when those numbers change. Withdrawal from this commitment requires written notice and will follow the cancellation and refund schedule below:

Between now and December 31st Full deposit can be refunded less a $50 processing fee
Between January 1st and March 1st Loss of deposit
Between March 2nd and May 1st Participants who cancel are responsible for 50% of the total cost of the trip
After May 1st Participants who cancel are responsible for the full cost of the trip
