4-H Horse Classic

California 4-H State Horse Classic

The California 4-H Equine Planning Committee will be hosting the 2019 California 4-H State Horse Classic at Brookside Equestrian Park. The California 4-H State Horse Classic gives 4-H members an opportunity to compete at the state level in horse riding and educational contests. In 2019, the Horse Classic will again be an event dedicated to over 2,885 4-H horse project members statewide.

About the 4-H Horse Classic Championship Show

The California 4-H Horse Classic offers 4-H members the chance to showcase the culmination of their efforts put forth in their equine projects throughout the year. At the State Championship Horse Show, 4-H riders have this opportunity to compete at a level beyond local, county or regional events. Participants must pre-qualify at qualifying horse shows.  

Educational contests

Educational contests will now be its own separate event.  Hippology, Horse Judging, and Public Speaking will be held at Fresno Ag Pavilion on Saturday, April 27, 2019.  Horse Bowl will be held at Horse Classic

Event Goals

The 4-H Horse Classic provides participants with an opportunity to:

  • Establish lifelong friendships with fellow 4-H members and leaders throughout the state.
  • Network with other counties and share personal experiences that have been meaningful to each person’s growth and development.
  • Share their passion for horses and expand their equine knowledge.
  • Experience personal growth.
  • Further develop their leadership and citizenship skills.
  • Promote good sportsmanship.
  • Compete at a level that is beyond that of the local, county, regional or district level.
  • Help raise funds to support the California delegation at the Western National Roundup.

New This Year

  • State 4-H Horse Education Contest for Horse Judging, Hippology and Public Speaking Contests will not take place at the CA 4-H Horse Classic.  It has been moved to April 27th at the Fresno Ag Pavilion.  Horse Bowl will still take place at CA 4-H Horse Classic.
  • Mini Horse classes will need to qualify
  • New Ranch Horse division classes to include, ranch horse trail, ranch riding pattern, modified reining, western riding and ranch horse trail.
  • High point and reserve high point as well.

  7:30 AM Ring 1: English Showmanship followed by English Flat classes, then jumping classes

Additional Information

Brookside Equestrian Park will coordinate RV/Feed/Shavings.

Feed and Bedding

As a reminder, Exhibitors can bring in their own feed and shavings but must clean and strip their own stalls if they do. There is no outside deliveries accepted for feed or shavings.

Feed, Bedding & Delivery will be provided by Brookside. All orders are to be placed by calling Brookside: 916-682-1403

Accommodations

At Brookside Equestrian Park, there are RV spaces, rooms and campers to rent, a swimming pool and two restaurants on site.

  • The Café will be open during show for breakfast, lunch, and beverages. Cafe will be open for partial day Thursday
  • Overnight RV: RV hook-ups are available on a first come first serve basis. All reservations are made thru Brookside. RV space with hook up (water/electric) for the entire show is $ 100.00. For RV reservations, please call Brookside Equestrian Center at 916-682-1403
  • Dry camping for the entire show $ 60.00
